Captain Cur         Wonder Flea         Rex         May

Hey, this is Captain Cur.

I don’t have any other names. So, you can call me Captain Cur.

The folks who published my story asked me to tell you all about my life. Why? I don’t know I am no different than any other mutt. I was alone in the world, without a pal, until I met Augustus. In fact my life began to be fun since we became friends.

He makes every day an adventure. Let’s see. We sleep as late as we want. Battle meanies. Save our friends. And eat whatever and whenever we can.

I love candy. I would eat it ten times a day if Augustus would let me. He says it’s no good for him if I get too sweet.

Augustus knows a lot of things.

Me? I just know what I know, I guess.

I’ll let you in on a secret, though. Sometimes I get really, really afraid. Well, by sometimes, I guess I mean most of the time.

But, Augustsus always tells me, “FEAR is just ARF spelled sideways without the E.”

Anyway, my life wasn’t always so much fun. I’ve always been kind of alone, even when I was with somebody.

I was born on a cold July day in the park. At least that’s what I was told by my dear old mom. She would always tell me, “It’ll a cold day in July before I have a pup like you again.”

My Mommy was the greatest mom any pup could have. She had a reddish brown coat of fur and the most magnificent green eyes. When she snuggled with me I felt so happy.

She was once a family dog in Connecticut. She belonged to this really nice girl. But the stepfather of the family… It’s always a stepfather or a stepmother isn’t it? Anyway, this mean nasty man hated my mom. Well, one day drove her into the city and kicked her out of the car. Then, he went home and told his stepdaughter – my mom’s little girlfriend, that she had run away!!!

Can you imagine? My mom was abandoned in the city! She made her way the best she could, but could never lose that feeling of being unwanted.

I never really knew my father. But, I’ve heard he was a real alpha dog. My dad was a dog at a fire station. A brave, strong Dalmatian, who got out of the fire station one day when they left the door open. He was playing in the park when he saw my mom.

It was love at first sniff.

They danced under the streetlights and swore they would be together forever. That’s what my mom always told me.

But, sadly, their love only lasted one night. A night of romance and magic where time stopped and anything was possible…

In the morning, my dad’s firemen found him and took him back to the station, not realizing that they had taken him from his true love!!! Can you imagine?

Anyway, while I know that my dad did many heroic things and saved many people, the firemen never let him out of their sight again.

I would talk more, but I am afraid my time is up. I must be off to another fun adventure!
